Top 10 Most Common Questions About Blood Tests — Answered

We all know blood tests are essential — but many still have doubts before getting one done. Here are answers to some of the most common questions people ask.

  1. Should I fast before every test?
No. Only certain tests like glucose, lipid, or insulin require fasting. Most routine panels don’t.

  2. Can stress affect my results?
Yes. Stress can temporarily raise blood sugar, cholesterol, and cortisol levels.

  3. Is it okay to drink water while fasting?
Yes. Water keeps you hydrated and doesn’t affect test accuracy.

  4. Why do I need repeat tests?
To monitor trends or confirm a diagnosis. Consistent tracking provides clearer insights.

  5. Can I test during my period?
Yes, but hormone and iron-related tests may vary — consult your doctor for timing.

  6. Why are my Vitamin D and B12 always low?
Lifestyle, sunlight exposure, and absorption issues can cause chronic deficiencies.

  7. Are home sample collections reliable?
Absolutely. At Acumen Diagnostics, samples are handled under strict medical protocols to maintain accuracy.

  8. How long should I wait for retesting after starting medication?
Usually 6–8 weeks, depending on the treatment type and test.

  9. How do I know which tests to do annually?
A preventive panel including CBC, Sugar, Lipid, Thyroid, and Vitamin D/B12 is ideal.

  10. Can supplements affect test results?
Yes. Always inform your doctor if you’re taking vitamins, iron, or herbal medicines.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
